The Simond brand is excited to declare the introduction of its latest innovative product, the MT900 Ultralight 50L trekking bag, set to be available starting April 2025. Designed specifically for avid hikers, this backpack weighs a mere 880 grams yet incorporates comfort and resilience developed over thousands of kilometers of testing.
As outdoor enthusiasts increasingly opt for ultralight gear, concerns around weight, comfort, and cost can hinder their choices. However, with the MT900 Ultralight, Simond tackles these issues head-on, creating a backpack that is remarkably light yet offers substantial comfort and excellent ventilation. "With the MT900 Ultralight, we are addressing the needs of demanding hikers who aim to minimize their load, allowing them to hike further while maintaining efficiency," said a spokesperson for Simond.
The development process for the MT900 Ultralight was comprehensive, spanning three years of meticulous design and testing. The backpack showcases a curved, adjustable back panel with a uniquely tensioned system and dual-density foam shoulder straps and hip belt, ensuring the utmost comfort for the wearer. "Each iteration was a challenge. We had to strike the right balance between features and weight. Thanks to field testing, we gathered feedback from trekkers and identified weak points which we improved over time," explained Bertrand, a Product Engineer involved in the design.
Durability is another strong point of the MT900 Ultralight. Crafted in the Czech Republic, the bag utilizes high-quality materials and has undergone rigorous testing, including the Jerk Test that simulates 10,000 sudden drops with a loaded bag. Moreover, real-world testing was performed on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) in the U.S. from May until September 24, covering an impressive 4240 kilometers alongside a staggering elevation gain of 150,000 meters.
The backpack is not only practical but also loaded with features that enhance the hiking experience. It boasts a volume of 50 liters and includes three large external pockets, a quick-access water bottle holder, an internal zippered pocket, and a compartment for a 2-liter hydration bladder. Additionally, the roll-top closure allows for proper compression of the gear within. As for water resistance, the bag is designed to be water-repellent; however, it is essential to note that it is not waterproof, and a rain cover is not included. Furthermore, it can support a maximum load of up to 12 kilograms, with a competitive price of €250 or £229.99.
Simond has established itself as a prominent name in mountain gear since its inception in 1860 and operates out of Chamonix. The brand’s commitment to crafting durable equipment with a focus on the rigorous demands of alpinists, climbers, and trekkers highlights their longstanding expertise in metalwork and innovation. "Our design teams strive to produce equipment that not only meets the technical requirements of mountain athletes but also prioritizes their safety," the spokesperson emphasized.
