Nepali mountaineer Omnika Dangol has achieved a remarkable milestone by summiting Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America. This ascent, completed on February 1, 2026, represents her fifth successful climb in the prestigious Seven Summits challenge, aimed at climbing the highest peak on each continent.
Dangol reached the 6,962-meter summit at precisely 3:40 PM local time, a feat documented in a press release from Kathmandu. Her expedition was fraught with difficulties, including challenging weather conditions that tested her team's endurance and resolve.
"The weather turned severe during our descent, and we were caught in a snowstorm that limited visibility completely," said Dangol, reflecting on her experience. "It was a struggle to maintain our route amid the whiteout conditions, but we made it back to Camp 3 safely."
The summit push from Camp 3 took an arduous 26 hours. Dangol and her team battled freezing temperatures and fierce winds while also coping with the extreme thin air characteristic of high altitudes.
Dangol’s journey into mountaineering began in 2021, ignited by her trek to Everest Base Camp. Having proven her mettle, she made headlines in 2022 when she became the first flight attendant to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Additionally, she is recognized as the first Nepali woman to scale the Carstensz Pyramid.
"After climbing Everest, I felt a strong commitment to complete the Seven Summits challenge, and I want my climbs to contribute to the welfare of senior citizens," Dangol stated, shedding light on her motivations that go beyond personal achievement.
So far, Dangol has successfully summited four peaks in her Seven Summits quest. These include Mount Everest, Mount Kilimanjaro, Carstensz Pyramid, and now Aconcagua. Her ambition is now focused on tackling Denali in North America and Mount Vinson in Antarctica.
As she gears up for these upcoming challenges, her inspiring journey highlights the significance of determination and the human spirit's resilience in the face of adversity. Omnika Dangol's remarkable achievements continue to inspire fellow climbers in Nepal and around the globe.
