Tune Outdoor has officially launched its latest product, the Tune M1Lite (M1L), a truck camper designed for solo adventurers and couples who desire greater mobility in remote terrains. The M1L, which is a streamlined pop-up model, caters to increasing demand for lightweight and agile camping solutions aimed at enhancing the outdoor experience.
With a base weight of only 322 pounds, the M1L is 20% lighter than its predecessor, the Tune M1, while maintaining its hallmark features of functionality and durability. According to Sean Kepler, co-founder and president of Tune Outdoor, "With the M1L, we set out to capture the core benefits of the M1 in a more compact, accessible form—without compromising on quality or experience." The M1L showcases cutting-edge innovations in construction, such as lightweight aluminum extrusions and injected composite corner brackets.
The dimensions of the new camper reveal a significant focus on efficiency, offering a sleeping platform sized 72” x 60” that prioritizes usability while keeping the interior volume about 20% smaller than its predecessor. The competitive price begins at $8,999, making it accessible for adventurers looking for reliable camping options without breaking the bank.
The availability of the M1Lite comes at a significant time for the vehicle-based camping market, which has seen a surge in interest. A report from the 2025 Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Survey indicated that the overlanding community in America has grown from 8 million in 2024 to over 12 million, showcasing a noticeable shift in camping preferences among consumers. This trend particularly aligns with the desire for more cost-effective, mobile adventure solutions as inflation drives travelers to seek alternatives to costly accommodations.
Kristian Arnold, co-founder and chief product officer, noted that many customers expressed interest in the original M1 model but found its space excessive and its cost too high. "The M1L is smartly designed, highly engineered, and competitively priced, and we see it quickly becoming a standout choice for customers in this segment," Arnold added. This adaptability makes the M1L appealing to a diverse demographic, ranging from young buyers to urban dwellers who are shifting towards camping in remote settings.
In addition to its lightweight design, the M1L supports a variety of outdoor activities. Its cargo space is suitable for gear related to backpacking, fishing, biking, and more. The overall weight reduction not only enhances fuel efficiency but also allows for better handling on rugged trails, appealing to adventurers eager to explore further.
The M1L will make its public debut as a prototype at the Overland Expo PNW from June 27 to 29 in Redmond, Oregon. The first production model is expected to be showcased at Overland Expo Mountain West in Loveland, Colorado, on August 22-24. For potential buyers, Tune Outdoor is currently accepting refundable deposits of $500, with installations slated to begin around Christmas 2025.
Founded by experts in the outdoor industry, Tune Outdoor aims to provide premium, innovative camping solutions while focusing on function, modularity, and modern design aesthetics. Emphasizing their commitment to helping adventure enthusiasts immerse themselves in nature, Tune Outdoor encapsulates a vision that prioritizes performance and connection to the great outdoors.
