As the North American ski season begins, Keystone Resort proudly sets the stage as the first resort to open its slopes for winter 2025-26 on October 25, 2025. Offering over two miles of expertly groomed terrain along the Schoolmarm and Silver Spoon trails, the resort’s opening day was a blend of innovative entertainment and traditional winter excitement.
"We’re thrilled to kick off the season here at Keystone with over two miles of skiing and riding," said Shannon Buhler, Keystone Resort's vice president and general manager. The resort greeted the season with a unique twist, commencing its operations in the afternoon and inviting skiers to enjoy the slopes under lights, celebrating its commitment to night skiing.
The opening festivities were lively, featuring a hike-to terrain park illuminated by snowcat lights. Guests enjoyed the atmosphere created by a live DJ, accompanied by affordable eats including $5.50 beers and hot dogs, marking Keystone's 55th anniversary of winter operations. The subsequent day, October 26, saw the resort's first full day of operation from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., welcoming visitors with music, complimentary donuts, hot coffee, and an overall warm embrace from the winter season.
To access the fresh terrain, visitors utilized the River Run Gondola, taking advantage of the Montezuma Express lift for their skiing laps. As night fell, patrons used the gondola to return to the base, where daily operations continue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with select nights offering skiing until 7 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
Convenience is essential for locals and visitors alike. Keystone Resort enhances guest experiences with free parking options in the River Run Gondola Lot and Mountain House. The resort's snowmaking team remains dedicated, working round-the-clock to create favorable conditions that will allow the early-season terrain to expand swiftly.
In addition to the skiing and riding experience, the resort is introducing the much-anticipated Kindred Resort, which will serve as a premier luxury accommodation option at River Run Village. The new establishment will feature ski-in, ski-out lodging, a heated pool with patio cocktail service, four dining options, valet services, and a full-service spa conveniently located by the River Run gondola.
As the season unfolds, Keystone aims to enhance the experience with an array of events. Among these are new activities like Snow Fort After Dark and Keystone's Military Winter Games, while beloved traditions such as New Year’s Eve fireworks and the signature Springtastic Pond Skim will be returning. Guests can find complete details about the event lineup on Keystone’s Signature event page.
Another highlight is the well-known Kids Ski Free program, which has benefited families since 2012. Kids aged 12 and under can ski free at Keystone with no blackout dates, provided families book two or more nights at the resort, helping make winter getaways more accessible.
To further improve the experience for skiers and snowboarders, Keystone Resort has collaborated with Breckenridge, Vail Mountain, and Beaver Creek to introduce an upgraded Ski and Ride School feature in the My Epic app. This technology aims to streamline check-in for both parents and students, making it easier to hit the slopes with confidence this season.
Keystone Resort's kickoff to the winter season sets a promising tone for skiing fans this year, showcasing a commitment not only to excellent snow conditions but also to enriching the overall experience for guests, making it an exciting destination in the North American winter landscape.
