This winter, Marc Rector found that the Sweet Protection Durden RIG Reflect goggle quickly became his go-to eyewear during his time at Grand Targhee Resort. Pairing these goggles with his Giro MIPS helmet, he noted that the fit was exceptional, contributing to a seamless skiing experience.
"I was surprised to find the goggle frame fit perfectly when paired with my Giro MIPS helmet," said Rector. The Durden RIG goggle's universal design eliminated air gaps, leading to a snug fit that kept him satisfied throughout the season.
The decision to rely solely on the Durden RIG goggle for both resort and backcountry skiing stemmed from Rector's initial skepticism about its compatibility with his smaller helmet size. He had worries about the elasticity of the goggle band diminishing, a common issue encountered with other goggles. His concerns melted away as he experienced, "The Durden RIG Goggle... did not push down on my nose or make my helmet ride up on my head, making it a perfect fit."
After a full season of use, Rector noted that the goggles remained snug against his face and helmet. He experienced no issues with loosening or fogging. "I can't wait to see how many over 100 ski day seasons they will last," he shared, highlighting the durability of the 3-layer foam that withstood continual wear and tear.

On brighter days, Rector switched to the RIG Quartz lens. He found both lenses to provide excellent contrast, making the need for quick lens changes minimal. "I never felt the need to bring two lenses to switch out on days where the weather was variable and unpredictable," he explained. However, he expressed a desire to test the RIG Obsidian lens, which boasts a 4% VLT, for those bright bluebird days, seeking enhanced sun protection.
Rector also highlighted several advantages of the Durden RIG goggles. He commended the stylish design, particularly appreciating the logo representing the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort on the goggle band. Despite having a small helmet size, he remarked, "Even with the snug fit... I never experienced fogging even while charging at the resort or while hiking."
Even with two silicon strips on the goggle band and adjustable tabs, achieving the perfect fit was straightforward, sparing him the hassle of constant adjustments.
Nonetheless, there were minor drawbacks. Initially, Rector missed a magnetic lens change feature but soon discovered that switching out the lenses was simple, as long as he had a polishing cloth on hand for smudges. "Just make sure to have a polishing cloth to take off finger smudges," he noted. Additionally, he expressed an interest in darker lenses for long days in bright sunlight.
Rector's overall impression of the Sweet Protection Durden RIG JHMR goggles is overwhelmingly positive. "I’m hoping the frame will hold up for many more seasons to enjoy the fit and comfort of the frames," he stated.
